Is coconut oil the magic oil that heals everything?

Or does its saturated fat content make the coconut unsafe for human consumption? Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Coconuts do have a lot of saturated fat, however, they contain a large number of medium chain fatty acids. Medium chain fatty acids, unlike other fats, don’t depend on a healthy gut lining to be absorbed. Their absorption actually starts even in the mouth (mom was right when she told you to chew your food well!). This may actually be helpful for leaky gut sufferers who may be suffering from malabsorption and other issues.

We believe that fat in large quantities is generally not advisable for those needing to decrease inflammation. We are very careful not to use any free fats—including coconut oil—in any of our cooking. However, we have found that many people experience improved symptoms while using a plant based diet that incorporates a modest amount of fatty plant foods, including the very yummy coconut 🥥!
